About
Our Mission
CommonCentsAct.com exists to provide clear, accurate, and practical information about the U.S. penny transition.
We're not selling fear or confusion about what's happening with the penny
We're here to help businesses, non-profits, and consumers navigate this change with confidence
Who We Are
Independent resource - We are not affiliated with the U.S. Government or any federal agency
Non-partisan - We are not affiliated with any political party or advocacy group
Filling the gap - Created to address the information gap during the penny transition and provide reliable guidance
About the name - "Common Cents Act" is the name of a stalled federal bill (H.R.3074/S.1525) and of an unrelated Oklahoma state law. This site is named after the federal bill but is independent of both — we track all penny-rounding policy, not just one bill.
How We Verify & Update
Primary sources first
Every state entry is verified against official sources — state legislature records, revenue/tax department guidance, and governor's office announcements — before it goes on the tracker. When a claim comes from news coverage instead of an official source, we label it as news-sourced until we can confirm it.
Regular full reviews
We run recurring research cycles that re-check all 56 jurisdictions (50 states, DC, and 5 territories) plus federal activity, rather than only adding new items. Last full review: June 18, 2026.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and re-verify the surrounding facts. Spotted an error? Email hello@commoncentsact.com — corrections get priority.
Sources we rely on:
- U.S. Treasury Department guidance
- Congressional legislation (S.1525, H.R.3074)
- State legislature and agency websites
- Federal Reserve coin services announcements
- Academic and Fed research on penny elimination
